Current Analyst Recommendations:

On a scale where 1 is a "strong-buy" and 5 is a "sell", Tesla is currently at a 2.6 making this a "buy" in the market today. The average analyst gives TSLA a price target of $962.94. With a current price of $870.43, TSLA is more of a "strong-buy" for the DubyaDubya team.

Quarterly Revenue Growth Year-Over-Year: 64.9%. This is extremely solid year-over-year quarterly growth, especially for a mega-cap company!

Insiders: We like our companies to have significant insider holdings, and this is an area where Elon Musk has a ton of stake in the game. He owns a large portion of the company and 18.38% is held by insiders. A company of this size hardly ever sees this type of ownership, so one more reason we love Tesla.

What makes Tesla (TSLA) worth your hard-earned money for the next decade or more?
The mission statement for Tesla is to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy. If we read that mission statement aloud and asked you to name the company, would you match that mission statement to Tesla? We ask because it’s so important to remember that Tesla is more than an electric car company.

With this mission statement in mind, we believe Tesla will do more than just change the outlook for vehicles. They are already developing tractor-trailers, solar-powered roofs, power storage, and robots. We think this is just the beginning of Tesla working to change the world and the software they are creating is just as powerful as the vehicles. Tesla is also well on its way to creating self-driving cars and a network of next-generation ride-hailing. With the recent announcement that they’re doubling their factory capacity in China, we are just as excited about the next 10 years of Tesla as we are about the past years it took to get to this point.

Why talk about Tesla (TSLA) to all your friends and family?

Tesla is a fun company to own and to tell your friends and family that it is part of your portfolio. Most people know about Elon Musk, but many don’t know about the vast portfolio of products Tesla is creating. Hop on to Youtube and start watching videos of Tesla and the future, listen to shareholder quarterly earnings, and also find podcasts talking about the future of Tesla. Even if Musk’s sometimes erratic public statements seem like a distraction, there’s no denying Tesla is a company with a stellar product portfolio that you can gladly recommend to family and friends to buy or even make their first stock.

How is this company disruptive?

Where do we begin about how disruptive Tesla is to so many industries? They have completely disrupted the car market and the truck market is up next. Their innovations in home power and robotic assistance also have immense disruptive potential. Tesla at its core is also reimagining factories and how to scale companies globally, showing it is able to create value and profits for shareholders while driving technology globally. We love disruptive companies that pave their own path long after reaching lofty market caps, and Tesla is a great example.

Conclusion:

The market correction has been tough for all portfolios including our own (this is why we also write about great whiskey, because hard times demand strong spirits). This in mind, we were deliberate in selecting a company of this size during the correction to add to our recommendations list. Tesla is a company you can add to quarter over quarter as you build a full position in your portfolio. It’s not going to completely change your financial future, but it will be a company that can grow your portfolio and become a cornerstone of your returns.

The Reflection – Never Gets Old

I always wanted to be an old man. Ever since I was a kid. I’ve always gotten along with old guys, as either I made them feel younger or I presented myself as much older. Maybe I surprised them that such a young man was so good at acting so old. Regardless, most people will wait until it comes, but I started settling into old guy habits early on in life. This leads me to Old Forester, a whiskey established in the 1870s. Personally, I’m going for an 80–90 year span, starting in the 1980s. After an exponential maturity level and a little rounding with a half-life, I felt like my age was relevant for a review of Old Forester. I decided to review the whiskey like an old guy. ::Cue Big Band music::

These days, the most efficient way to research something is to tap into the worldwide inter-webs. For those matured during later years (after 2000), sites associated with whiskey, like Old Forester, will require that you be 21+ years of age before reviewing their content. I have two teenage daughters and I applaud all these computer efforts to stall them from the finer things that they can experience later in life.

I proceeded onto the worldwide website and made a note of the option to “Remember me (do not choose this option if using a shared computer)”. I did feel like this raised some unnecessary questions for older people like me. I allow my wife, daughters, and anyone else in need of a phone to use my iPhone when the occasion presents itself. My daughters and wife don’t go to drinking webby sites like these, do they? It doesn’t matter. Like any responsible guy, I felt safest using my cyber-protected work laptop to enter my best friend’s birthday and continue.

Old Forester gave me two choices on their site: “whiskey” or “distillery”. I’m awfully curious about the opportunity to explore any distillery, but at my age, it’s important to remain focused, and so I selected “whiskey”. There was one choice from there: “our whiskies”. Lo and behold, five different whiskies popped up on my screen. I scrolled through them until I found the one that looked like mine: “1870 – Original Batch”. After reading the very brief description, I did what old guys do after a brief attempt at research – I started drinking.

The Nose, Pallet, and Finish

I always enjoy creating a poetic image when I first smell a whiskey. This one reminded me of orange peels on a pecan pie and served on a freshly cut oak slab in the woods. My sinuses were cleared and it lifted me into the clouds.

Surprisingly, the whiskey tasted as sweet as it smelled without much spice or smokiness. I sipped in a fresh bakery of pastries and finished with the delightful nostalgia of an ice cream store.

The Conclusion

Old Forester is not cheap. At $45–$55, the cheap old man in me is likely to take a less expensive option. An average whiskey is going to lose points if it’s priced high and so it just missed the 4/5. However, it is a great choice if someone else is picking up the tab.

Score – 3.5/5
